Helping Good Recommendations Work in Real Life

Many people who may benefit from Lockhart OT already have thoughtful physicians, psychologists, therapists, educators, and other professionals involved in their care.

Lockhart OT is designed to complement that work.

My role is practical and function-based: helping clients translate insight, recommendations, and treatment goals into changes that actually work within their everyday routines and environments.

When Lockhart OT May Be Helpful

A referral may be helpful when a client understands the concern—

or has already received thoughtful recommendations—but everyday function is still difficult.

You may be seeing a client who...

  • Understands strategies but struggles to use them consistently in daily life

  • Has difficulty establishing or maintaining routines and systems

  • Is overwhelmed by ordinary household, self-care, school, or work demands

  • Uses significant energy managing work or school and has little capacity left at home

  • Experiences sensory needs that interfere with everyday activities or participation

  • Has executive-function challenges affecting initiation, transitions, organization, or follow-through

  • Functions well in one environment but struggles significantly in another

OT Can Help Explore...

  • What is actually happening within the client’s routines and environments

  • Environmental or sensory factors that may be increasing demands

  • Where a task or routine is breaking down

  • The client’s available capacity and the demands being placed on it

  • How existing recommendations translate into everyday life

  • Practical adaptations, supports, and strategies that fit the individual

  • What can be changed in the task or environment rather than simply asking the person to work harder

What Collaboration Can Look Like

When appropriate and with the client’s permission, I value communication with the professionals

already involved in their care. The goal is not to duplicate services, but to support

continuity between clinical recommendations and everyday function.

1. You identify the concern

A client may come to you for evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, counseling, medical care, educational support, or another area of expertise.

2. I look at everyday function

OT can explore how routines, tasks, environments, sensory experiences, executive-function demands, and available capacity are affecting what happens in daily life.

3. We support the same person

When collaboration is helpful and authorized by the client, I can share relevant functional observations and strategies so our work supports rather than competes with one another.

Lockhart OT works alongside existing providers, helping carry clinical insight and

recommendations into the places where everyday life actually happens.
